P.Daniel preached about three similar cases in the Bible but different outcomes.
- Ichabod
And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
1 Samuel 4:21
The mother gave him a name out of agony and he beared that and carried the cause all the days of his life.
- Benjamin
And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
Genesis 35:17-18
In the same vein, the mother gave him a name out of pain. But in the case of Benjamin, he had a prophet as a father who could negotiate on his behalf. And his case was changed.
- Jabez
And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
1 Chronicles 4:9 -10
Many of us might be like Jabez, no priest that could help us negotiate our cause, but the good news is that we can negotiate our cause on the altar of prayer and prevail.
