The bible is full epic love stories that are full of valuable life lessons. God created us with the ability to express romantic love but when, how and to whom it is expressed to can make or mar us.
Ruth and Boaz
The romantic love between Ruth and Boaz is my favorite love story in the bible. It has lot of life lessons and prayer points that one can run with. I got inspired to write an epic fictional narration of Ruth and Boaz’s love story titled Wild Fragrance .
Ruth’s life shows clearly that God doesn’t consult your past to make you relevant in his kingdom. All God needs is your availability.
God can use you to break records for he is an expert in using the foolish things to confound the wise. I Corinthians 1:27
Did you know that Boaz was number one on the list of the most eligible wealthy bachelors in Israel at the time he found love in the hands of a widow?
Funny enough, Ruth wasn’t just a widow for she hailed from a nation that has been blacklisted by God. It was protocol breaking combined with God’s mercy for Boaz to marry Ruth.
Can I prophecy to your life that you will be a daily recipient of God’s unmerited favor in Jesus’ name?
We should be ready to embrace the unknown God is pointing us to if we want to be relevant in life. Ruth followed the God of Naomi and met her Boaz. She went further to make history by being the great grandmother of King David. She practically found herself in the lineage of Jesus. What a beautiful life.
Hello Singles, there is nothing as beautiful and fulfilling like allowing God lead you to the one he made you for.
Salmon and Rehab the harlot
The love between these two awesome humans produced Boaz. I am not surprised Boaz was able to love Ruth the Moabites; he learnt it from his father, Salmon. Rahab was the harlot who kept the Israelites secret of spying the walls of Jericho. Salmon was among the two spies whom Rahab kept safe from danger. She asked that her life and that of her family be preserved in return. Joshua 2
Salmon met his wife Rahab on his journey to purpose. Can I recommend that you get busy with what God has called you to do? For in it will you get clarity on whom to marry?
God specializes in breaking protocols to show his loyalty when we decide to be on his side. He did this for Rahab and her family despite destroying other people in Jericho.
Your past doesn’t matter when God wants to use you. All he is interested in is your availability. Will you be available for him just like Rahab? You know what? Rehab found herself too in the lineage of Jesus. Matthew 1:5 testifies to this.
David and Bathsheba
David was idle instead of being at the war front and this was why he stumbled on a nude woman. II Samuel 11:1
Their romance and love story had many ripple effects. It led to the death of many.
In the words of Pastor Daniel Olawande, “Adultery is when two adults decide to play lottery with their destiny”.
You can be married to someone and yet be attracted to another. The problem begins when you decide to act on the attraction.
One would wonder how David could end up being called a man after God’s heart after his sin. The romance of these two however shows how merciful God is when we realize our faults and go back to him.
Bathsheba did not dwell on the sinful foundation she started with David, she went on to raise Solomon well. The good upbringing she gave him made him stand out and this made David promise him the throne. I Kings 1:11-49
Abraham and Sarah
He loved his wife so much that he never seems to weigh the consequences of her instructions before obeying her. He just wants to be at peace with her.
The mistake however was the decision to pursue a romantic relationship with Hagar. Hagar served as a maid after her purchase from Egypt until Sarah asked her husband to have an heir through her. Genesis 16:1-16
There are many lessons here. One of it is, do not ever disobey God’s instructions to obey your spouse or loved one. The consequence is always painful and sometimes difficult to bear. The trio of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar each felt the pain and emotional torture of the affair with Hagar. The religious wars around the world today may not be if Abraham never touched Hagar.
When Hagar became pregnant with Abraham’s child, she despised Sarah. This was the reason why Sarah dealt harshly with her. Hear this, we should never become ungrateful to people who have helped us in life. Even if they later do badly to us, we should always remember the good they once did.
Another thing we must always remember is that God is never late because he always deliver on his promise. He delivered on his word by producing Isaac.
Joseph and Mary
The love between Joseph and Mary the mother of Jesus is sacred. How could a young man find his betrothed pregnant with another man’s child and decide to cover up for her? This is empathy and you can read more about it in 5 Golden Rules for Better Communication.
Joseph thought there is no way he can disgrace a woman he claimed to love. Matthew 1:19
This show of love is what we need in our world today. If we allow genuine love to fill our hearts, we wouldn’t plan bitter revenge on those we once loved. It beats my imagination today how a spouse will think to take the life of a spouse he or she once loved. This is an influence of the devil.
We should learn not to repay evil with evil. God must have seen the kind of heart that Joseph had before he matched make him with Mary. Or don’t you think God would be concerned with the man who fathers his only begotten son on planet earth?
The romance between Joseph and Mary shows that women can carry vision. Mary gave birth to Jesus and nurtured him, this is a great vision.
You can read more on women that housed great visions in 5 Important Discussions You Must Have Before Your Wedding.
It is a great blessing to be married to a woman with visions. Men should learn from Joseph and nurture their wife’s vision to greatness. It comes with its own glory; remember Jesus was always referred to as the son of a carpenter . Joseph is the carpenter that Matthew 13:55. referred to. What an eternal honor to be the earthly father of the Savior of the world.
Dinah and Shechem
Shechem made the greatest mistake of his life by desiring a long term romance with Dinah.
Shechem made a more terrible error when he raped Dinah and this led to the death of all the men in his town. Genesis 34
The bible made us to understand that God judges sexual immorality in any form, whether single or married. Hebrews 13:4 (TPT)
God is so clear about the punishment of a rapist and it is shown clearly in Deuteronomy 22:25-27. He declares death for the rapist and that is what happened to Shechem.
Shechem raped Dinah and then begged to marry her. He put what he should have done first at the tail end. If he has taken the right step first he would have found out that his tribe cannot marry her tribe and he would have saved his life and his people.
Rape is sin against God and it also leaves emotional scar that takes time to heal on its victim. Rape victims should seek healing from God and therapy from experts.
Research has shown that victims of rape experience challenge in sexual intimacy later on in life if such persons don’t go through therapy and get healing.
Sexual intimacy is not just sex, it is a covenant that is binding and has many Spiritual undertones.
Samson and Delilah
The love story of Samson and Delilah is tragic.
God’s instructions are always for our good. That something is good to behold does not mean is good for your life. Samson made the mistake of his life by taking an enemy for a lover.
There are some secrets God will entrust in you that is not for public consumption. The secret of Samson’s strength needed to be kept intact because he was created for the destruction of Israelites’ enemy. Divulging that information to the enemy was his doom.
God stopped trusting some people with information because they failed to keep the ones God kept with them before. Don’t be like Samson; learn how to close your lips. Psalms 141:3
Be Careful of what You Ask of God
God is a merciful God; he could have given Samson another chance in life despite his blindness. Samson rather asked to die with his enemies. God has the power to restore Samson’s eyes if only he asked.
No matter what situation you find yourself, don’t ever limit God or give up on his mercy. God’s mercies endure forever; if he could make Samson’s hair to grow again, he could also restore his eyes.
